Breast Cancer 3-Day October Update

I just sent this email to all of my supporters and I thought you might be interested in reading it too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello and Happy Fall!
My fundraising and training are going very well. I have exciting news to share!! First, for those of you new to the email list, here is my story.
In January 1987, my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer a month after her 35th birthday. She had a modified radical mastectomy then had chemotherapy and radiation treatment. She fought hard. In December 1987, breast cancer “won” and took my Mom away from us. She hadn’t celebrated her 36th birthday yet.
I grew up sassy (I know you’re surprised!) and determined and decided in 2001 to sign up for what was then called the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day walk. I walked from Ft. Collins to Boulder, CO in August and raised just over $3,000.
Totals in ensuing years:
2002: $2,200
2003: $3,000
2004: $1,500
I took a few years off from major fundraising, but continued to walk in the Race for the Cure in Denver every year. After moving to Phoenix in November 2006, I wanted to meet new people and get involved in local events.
As 2007 marks 20 years since we lost my Mom, I started talking to a few people about the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk in Phoenix. I decided to crew the event because I didn’t want to have to train in the Arizona heat. As fate would have it, that same day I got a phone call that my Mom’s sister Ilona was diagnosed with breast cancer. That changed my mind and sealed my decision to do the walk in Arizona (which takes place in November, thank goodness!).
I surpassed my minimum of $2,200, then my next goal of $3,000, and was only able to do so because of the wonderful, generous, supportive people in my life - all of you! My next goal is to raise a total of $5,000 by October 15 – help me get there!!
Here are the stats at a glance as of today (9/30/07):
  • My fundraising total – $4,040
  • Donations that are eligible for company matches – $1,100
  • If you have submitted a donation, check with your company to see if they match donations. Your support could be doubled!!!
  • Miles walked in training – I think I’ve walked about 200 miles so far. If I’d followed the “official” training schedule, I’d be at over 400 miles. Hm … not so much!
  • Team members on my team – there are 8 of us.
  • Team fundraising total – $16,620
Thank you so much for all of your support. Stay tuned for an email in the next couple of weeks with information about cheering stations and Closing Ceremonies for those of you who can attend and want to see what it’s all about.
Thanks,
Margi
